My Ideal Career

I dream about leaving my mark on the city of Toronto.
Starting about 9 or 10 years ago, I began working in renovations. I did odd, landscaping jobs. By reinventing the space inside of and around so many peoples’ homes for the last decade, I have developed a fondness for construction. For building beautiful things where neglect and age once stood. This has brought me through an unconventional path towards architecture, where the study of design was something I needed to do to help me reach my goals. The architect that most inspires me is Toronto-born
Frank Owen Gehry.

From his own Gehry House and his Venice Beach House in California, to the Guggenheim Museum in Spain, or more recently, the project that has me giggling like a child, His new 80-story collaboration with David Mirvish. Anyway you look at it, one man managed to chase his dreams and literally changed the face of the Earth everywhere he is hired. And though it is currently only a dream, I would like to supplant Gehry as the greatest architect ever, and make Toronto the home of the best architects to ever reface this world in which we live. Imagine Toronto as the new Chicago or New York City. This great, Canadian City is the third-largest city in North America, naturally behind NYC and Chicago. And though the Sears Tower and the John Hancock Center are both in Chicago, they also have some Canadian lineage, Toronto, not Chicago, has the second-highest concentration of towers in North America. Bruce Graham‘s (the architect behind the two Chicago towers) father was born in Canada, and is another reason I believe great architectural design belongs to Canada.

I am fully aware of the unconventional path I’ve taken so far, but my destination is clear. Gehry always needed investors that share his visions, whereas I will need the architects to share mine. Of course, I already have that planned out and within the next ten years, I can start my very first project. My own house. Wish me luck!

About marshalltann

When I was a kid, when I was a little boy, I always wanted to be a dinosaur, I wanted to be a Tyrannosaurus Rex more than anything in the world, I made my arms short and I roamed the back yard, I chased the neighborhood cats, I growled and I roared, everybody knew me and was afraid of me, and one day my dad said "Bobby you are 17, it's time to throw childish things aside" and I said "OK Pop", but he didn't really say that he said that "Stop being a fucking dinosaur and get a job".
